The CMS experiment [1] uses a general purpose detector designed for detecting the diverse signatures associated with Higgs production and new physics beyond the Standard Model. These processes are typically associated with final states containing a large missing transverse energy and several high energy jets. Here, we present a description and status report of the construction and testing of the CMS hadronic calorimeter system, as well as its ability to measure jets and .
