Neutrino masses show that the standard model of the elementary particles and interactions is incomplete and suggest the existence of physics at high mass scales. Furthermore, the difference between quark and lepton mixing raising new questions. We discuss some theoretical attempts to address these questions emphasizing their limitations and the potential.
