We study in detail semi-inclusive charmless B → πX decays sucha as → π±(0)
X, B
0 → π±(0)
X B± π±(0)
X, where X does not contain a charm (anti)quark. We find that the process
→ π−
X (B
0 → π+
X) can be particularly useful for the determination of the CKM matrix element |Vub|. We calculate and present the branching ratio (BR) of
→ π−
X as a function of |Vub|, with an
estimate of possible uncertainties. It is expected that the BR is of the order of 10™4. Our estimation
indicates that one can phenomenologically determine Our estimation
indicates that one can phenomenologically determine with a reasonable accuracy by measuring the
BR of
→ π−
X (B
0 → π+
X).
