We propose a thermodynamically consistent equation of state (EOS) for a hot and dense handron gas (HG) incorporating the hard-core finite-size correction for baryons which result in a Van-der Waals excluded volume effect. We develop a complete description within a thermal hadron gas model to determine the production of strange particles in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions and calculate the strange particle ratios as function of baryon chemical potential pB and temperature T. The results are compared with other existing thermodynamically consistent EOS. Furthermore we extract the thermal freeze-out parameters for different strange particles using the latest data obtained by the CERN experiments.
